Tom

Tom was obsessed. He could think of nothing else. People then didn’t know anything about atoms or how they combined to form molecules, so they published theories about important substances like gold, water, and various kinds of earth that were metaphorical, or symbolic, but not real. Tom read everything about it that he could find. Everything was related to the planets, naturally. Like many others, Tom knew there must be a way to use this information to benefit mankind, or at least to become, secretly, rich.
