It’s not a malady; it’s a symptom of the psychiatrist’s lack of empathy. It’s a cave entrance from which a spring flows. Hysteria is no more pathological than crying. Some persons are more sensitive to the wanton outrages of our lives. We should honor them; we should comfort them. We should trace their tears to their miserable sources and correct the hidden injustices that affect us all.
