Animal actors

An organ grinder has his capuchin, which has its traditional role and knows its tricks. Terry who played Toto in “The Wizard of Oz” basically had to follow and to be cute. Bamboo Harvester who played Mr. Ed didn’t get the speaking part. That was Allan Lane. Pal, who was a male, played the part of Lassie, who was a female. Clever photography and long Rough Collie fur, not clever acting, avoided the question. Rin Tin Tin was a better actor; the first part he played was a wolf. Peggy, a chimpanzee, played Bonzo alongside future president Ronald Reagan, and died shortly after. After this people called Reagan “Bonzo.” In any case, animal actors serve the human ego. We like other species to be entertaining.
