- Approaching millennium: A thrust—
- more than an incident here & there,
- “things have definitely speeded up,
- gotten crazier!” This, from poets
- congregating outside a cafe,
- under stars dimmed by neon
- & electric light, a quick sense of safety
- & commerce that is a city’s insistence
- & lure. Yet, beyond the spark of car
- or computer, we assume these stars
- constant, eternal Their light
- infuses us, enters through membrane
- we associate with our birth,
- & smears us unaware with delicate
- luminosity millions of years from its source,
- connecting us with a time-line
- we can barely imagine.
- & thus, we make & leave markers:
- a measure of physical life, yes,
- but always a stagger step or drunken stumble
- toward the mystery that is Spirit
- & its precession of the material & the dream.
