Sleepless, I look for the Big Dipper, which points north toward home. Except for the stars, there’s nothing here that’s familiar or comforting. I feel useless, just waiting to die. In the distance, a horn musters soldiers. The moonlight rushes over stone walls and reflects among the reeds.
