Descriptions and stories of angels for some religions are a matter of popular lore, not strictly a matter of doctrine. However, for the Angelic Hosts, angels are a matter of existence. These believers have extracted from literature and scripture all known passages that describe the behaviors, powers, and hierarchies of angels, and they have added to that. They claim that many stories about strangers, kind and fierce, are secretly about angels. They claim that many events in history were driven by interfering angels even though the angel’s interests did not always prevail. Angels are not merely messengers, they say. Angels are not merely guardians. Their purposes are not merely instruments of God. They have their own personalities, their own feelings, limitations, and abilities, much like human beings.
