It’s supposed to be funny in a morbid way that Mortimer Brewster’s sweet aunts have been poisoning lonely old bachelors, that his brother Teddy thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt and is burying the bodies in the basement, that his brother Jonathan, a serial killer, had plastic surgery, but it was botched, so he now resembles Frankenstein’s monster, that his surgeon is played by Peter Lorre and is named Hermon Einstein, and that Mortimer in the end finds that he isn’t related to them after all.
