At the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, trainers have developed an immersion program that teaches almost any foreign language in three weeks. The U. S. military doesn’t advertise this ability. It’s used for quickly moving agents into the field. The methodology of this program is a restricted national asset. It’s difficult enough to control the sources of politically sensitive information. It’s a lot easier when Americans, in general, know only English.
