In 1856, Lead-Arm Mike claimed the title for having been shot more often than any other man. Mike was a Texas cattle rustler, but he wasn’t very successful. He claimed to have been shot nineteen times in the buttocks, twelve times in the left leg thirty-two times in the left arm, and thirteen times in the right. Not all of these were flesh wounds, but he didn’t get his nickname from the lead bullets that stayed in him, but because, when he had to draw his gun, his arm seemed to be made of lead.
