Much of the past is buried in the dirt. It’s not that people want to forget; but they forget anyway and the remains are destroyed by time as much as by invasions. People want to believe their own stories, but they leave out important information. Fragments of porcelain hint at the purpose of structures in the ground. Otherwise, we speculate between separate discoveries and it’s a real joy when anything is resolved because what we find in the dirt is ourselves.
