君子于役，不知其期，曷至哉。 鸡栖于埘，日之夕矣，羊牛下来。 君子于役，如之何勿思。 君子于役，不日不月，曷其有佸。 鸡栖于桀，日之夕矣，羊牛下括。 君子于役，苟无饥渴。

Away on duty (literal translation)

A gentleman is away on duty, his return date unknown. When will he return? Chickens roost in their coops, the sun is setting, sheep and cattle come down from the hills. A gentleman is away on duty; how can I not think of him? A gentleman is away on duty, neither day nor month; when will we meet again? Chickens roost on their perches, the sun is setting, sheep and cattle come down from the hills. A gentleman is away on duty; may he not suffer from hunger or thirst.
